A 60-day voyage through Australia was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A large-scale hunt located her body the following day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that guests and personnel on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Commander" banning any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.
